10 days  have passed since the successful conclusion of FOSS4G-Asia 2014.
On behalf of the organizers, I will like to thank one and all for support
and active participation in FOSS4G-Asia 2014. The conference was attended
by more then 112 participants for 18 different countries and by all
means a grand success.

International Journal of Geoinformatics [1] is planning
to bring out Special Issue of FOSS4G-Asia 2014  sometimes in
June 2015. We will send notifications to authors whose papers
will be shortlisted for the special issue by the scientific committee
of FOSS4G-Asia 2014.

Three awards were presented as below.

  1. Best FOSS4G Use Case Award to Kazeem Owolabi and others for
"Use case: supporting polio eradication and Ebola outbreak response"

  2. Best FOSS4G Developer Award to Gérald Fenoy and NIcolas Bozon
for "MapMint: The 100% service-oriented GIS platform"

  3. Best Poster Award to Jayasinghe and others for
"Assess the level of vulnerability to climate exaggerated disasters in
Sri Lankan Coastal Areas: An Application of Open Source Geographic
    Information System"

2015 we will have the global gathering of FOSS4G in Seoul [2] and
a special Asian Session at FOSS4G-2015 was announced by the
Conference Chair Mr. Sanghee Shin during FOSS4G-Asia 2014.
We hope to see all of you at FOSS4G-Seoul in 2015. FOSS4G-Asia
will be held again in 2016  somewhere in Asia. If have any suggestion
for the FOSS4G-Asia 2016 venue, please let us know.

This FOSS4G-Asia Conference mailing list [3] will remain active and if you
have any feedback to help to improve the future conference, please
feel free to write on the ML. Please ask your friends and colleagues
interested in FOSS4G to subscribe to the ML too.

I take this opportunity to thank the Sponsors, Local Organizers and
Volunteers
without whose help, FOSS4G-Asia 2014 would not be possible.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I would also like to thank Sarawut, Venka, all of the local organizers
and volunteers, for just a wonderful FOSS4G-Asia event, full of passion
and fun, and the true spirit of FOSS4G.  It was a very special event.
We often now speak of the "FOSS4G family", and indeed FOSS4G-Asia was a
FOSS4G family event.  It was, special.  Hard to put into words how much
events like this mean to the community, and me.

Thank you everyone.

PS.  I am happy to remain on this mailing list and contribute to future
FOSS4G-Asia events, in any little way that I can.

+1 Thanks for the event guys, I really enjoyed myself. I'm not sure exactly
what I was expecting, but the event definitely exceeded my expectations.
You will be seeing more of me at the future events, and who knows, one day
there might even be a FOSS4G Cambodia at Ankor Wat / Siem Reap.

+1 from me too. Thank you Dr. Venkatesh, Dr. Sarawut  and wonderful local
organizing committee!  It was a great time at AIT meeting new people. More
importantly spending few days with people having same passion – love for
foss4g- gives more energy to move forward.

Thank you again for organizing such a vibrant event which link together
Asian FOSS4g community and world FOSS 4G community. Simply I love this
event very much.

Thanks Venka, Sarawut and All.
Was a wonderful experience with the friendliest  people in the world!
For Sanghee and Kang a good news: ISPRS will support the presence at FOSS4G 2015 of Marguerite Madden, a great researcher, a nice person and  member of the ISPRS Council.
Kisses to All of You. See you in Como (for those who will be able to come) or in Seul!

Dear All,

At the recently concluded FOSS4G-India [1],
it was proposed to host FOSS4G-Asia at
IIIT-H, Hyderabad, India in early December, 2016.

Dr. Rajan, Faculty at IIIT-H, who was at FOSS4G-Asia 2014 and who is the
main organizer of FOSS4G-India has kindly consented
to take the lead if the FOSS4G-2016  is held at IIIT-H.

We would like to hear your opinion about the FOSS4G-Asia 2016
venue. If there is other proposals to host FOSS4G-Asia 2016,
please propose on this ML before 15 July 2015 so that we
can set-up some kind of selection process to decide the venue.

It would be great if the venue and dates are decided before
end of July 2015 so that we could plan to publish 1st Circular
that could be distributed at FOSS4G-2015 [3] to be held in Seoul,
South Korea between 14-19 September 2015.

Best

Rightly said Venka. It is a decade since OSGeo India was formed with your
nudging (emails) and Meting Dr Roy at Pune (India) to sow the seed. Having
a FOSS4G at India after a decade of (it's) formation would be wonderful.
South Asia needs Societal-GIS in a big way and OSGeo India is trying it's
best to popularise, 'Societal-GIS' to erase the shadow of corruption and
bring in transparency in administration.
Let us mobilise the opinion for the same.
